The Light That Remains Collection
since a young girl I’ve had the experience of direct connection to the Divine
that quiet, intimate relationship between soul and Source
it’s never been about religion for me
it’s about RELATIONSHIP
this year after walking through some profound challenges
my connection to Source called me to paint again
but instead of my whimsical florals, faces appeared:
women in prayer, saints, nuns, young girls
and a single white dove carrying an olive branch
each crowned with a golden halo made of gold leaf
I called this collection THE LIGHT THAT REMAINS
my intention with these paintings is to reminds us that even in our darkest moments
a quiet light is always waiting to break through
they call us back to stillness, to our faith we often forget
and to the peace found in simple, heartfelt prayer
SHE WHO LISTENS~ SOLD
humble, holy, and deeply human… plain, serene, without adornment clothed in stillness and faith
the spirit of Mary not as a religious icon but as the soul of surrender
even though i didn’t set out to paint ‘Mother Mary’ her presence simply arrived…
that universal energy of compassion, humility and divine femininity came through my paintbrushes
clothed in simple linen, head bowed in prayer she carries the quiet grace of a woman
who has said yes to something far greater than herself…
GOLDEN PRAYERS
draped in turquoise and gold she kneels in quiet devotion
a vision of grace and strength
inspired by a classic image of an unnamed saint
this portrait reimagines her not through doctrine but through beauty~
the shimmer of gold leaf, the softness of lace, the timeless act of prayer
for me she represents the eternal feminine in communion with the Divine
KEEPER OF FAITH
grounded, radiant and full of presence
draped in her habit with a wooden cross resting against her heart
she stands as a quiet pillar of faith
her inner gaze is serene, her features strong
the face of a woman who has lived her devotion
not merely prayed it
to me she embodies the sacred resilience of women who hold faith through every season
the ones who keep the light alive simply by enduring in love
FIRST VOW~ SOLD
the name of this painting evokes the solemn yet hopeful beginning of her path…
she’s clothed in black and white, her young face glows with the light of innocence and untested faith
her closed eyes envision the hope of prayers just learned
spoken not from duty but from the pure joy of devotion
there is something both tender and timeless in her…
the way the dark nun habit frames her luminous skin
the quiet courage of her choice…
though she seems barely grown, her serenity speaks of an old soul
one who already knows that peace is found in faith and surrender
to me, she is the Novice… innocence meeting eternity

WHIMSICAL ANGEL
a radiant African American angel rises at the heart of this luminous Christmas painting
her presence serene, soulful, and full of grace
she is surrounded by glowing orbs of light, symbols of unseen blessings
while three doves sweep overhead carrying peace into the winter night
above them all shines a brilliant North Star, the Star of Bethlehem
casting a celestial glow that fills the entire scene with wonder
DOVE OF PEACE~ SOLD
a white dove, wings outstretched, descends through a field of golden filigree
in her beak, an olive branch, the ancient emblem of peace and promise
her eyes are gentle, full of innocence and light
and even her small folded feet seem to pray as she nears her landing
she carries the essence of the entire collection:
faith, surrender, and renewal
the peace that follows devotion
the light that remains when all else quiets
the shimmer of gold leaf around her recalls heaven’s glow
but also the holiness found here on earth, in each heart that still hopes

its flame encircled by a golden halo of light
her long braids fall softly over her shoulders
her white nightgown glowing in the candle’s warmth
there is a sense of both stillness and radiance here…
a young soul communing with something vast and loving
in her, I see the continuation of innocence made strong
a child of light carrying her own quiet divinity
the candle, humble yet powerful, mirrors the glow that surrounds her
a reminder that the same flame that lights the world also burns within each heart
she is a prayer embodied
a whisper of faith, purity, and the divine presence that shines from within
FOR SUCH A TIME AS THIS
this new collection was born from silence, from a heart that had broken open twice
and found itself listening more deeply than ever before
in the months that followed I began painting women in prayer
women whose quiet strength, faith and surrender reflected something
I was learning to trust again, deeper than ever:
the presence of the Divine within and all around us
one of the women I was drawn to paint was Queen Esther
a girl who had the gift of courage, to stand up for what is right even when it’s dangerous,
saving her people
as someone who was suddenly orphaned at the tender age of 16 I related to her trusting in God’s plan
that miracles would manifest not only be for myself
but for thousands of women around the world who I am connected to
ANOINTED
a woman in the quiet glow of prayer
she doesn’t need adornment
her beauty radiates from her soul
from the courage to approach
from the love she offers without reservation
she is perhaps Mary Magdalene, Mary of Bethany or perhaps the unnamed woman who knelt at Jesus’ feet
with nothing but her love, her tears and her courage
their tenderness and unreserved love echo through this piece inviting us into a moment of holy intimacy

About Shakaya Leone
After a decade of mentoring women I am over the moon to be offering my original paintings…
Guided by my Muse, Earth Empress, I have been inspired to paint portraits of the Divine Feminine, Florals and Abstracts of Light.
